“[Michael Hingston is] right about everything except Avatar.” —Mike Birbiglia, author of Sleepwalk With Me
Hello and welcome to Too Many Books in the Kitchen (est. 2009), a blog about all things literary. I’m Michael Hingston, a 27-year-old writer and editor based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Currently I’m the books columnist for the Edmonton Journal, with new columns appearing in print and online every Friday. My journalism has also appeared in the Globe and Mail, the National Post,The Georgia Straight, Vue Weekly, The Tyee, Alberta Views magazine, Avenue magazine, Alberta Venture magazine, Sad Mag, and Pop Montreal, among other places. All of my books writing can be found in the “WRITING” section to your left.
My first novel is due out from Freehand Books this September; more on that here.
My fiction and fiction-y writing has also appeared in McSweeney’s Internet Tendency and The Incongruous Quarterly.
This blog has made appearances in New York Magazine and on Largehearted Boy.
If you’d like to contact me about work—yes! do it!—send me an email, at hingston [at] gmail [dot] com.
If you’re an author or publicist with a book you think I should know about, feel free to get in touch. There’s no better feeling as a reviewer than discovering new writers, and nothing sends my brain into a frenzy like seeing those rectangular boxes appear in my mailbox. In return I’ll simply ask that you poke around here a bit first, to figure out what kinds of books I’m interested in. Thanks for reading.
