Spoils from this morning’s Great Edmonton Book Swap. I unloaded more than 60 books, and we ended up with
at least 150 320 (!) to donate to libraries in High River.
Thanks to everyone who came through, and especially those who carted in books of their own in backpacks, grocery bags, and suitcases. (One person took so many, she couldn’t go grocery shopping later, as she’d planned. Yessss.)
I couldn’t believe how many amazing books were left on the tables. Next time we’ll make it even bigger.Sep 28, 2013
The Untitled Bookshop is closing in July. Here are four reasons (plus Bridget’s latest HP re-up) why that’s shitty news for Edmonton. It is easily the best-curated used bookstore in the city.

Some recent pickups. Truthfully, I’m up to my eyeballs in reading for work for the next month. But every tunnel needs a light at the end.

Stopped by Journal HQ today. For supplies.

I stopped buying books for a while there, but lately I’ve been in heavy, heavy relapse. This doesn’t even include the stacks I brought home from the Journal's stockpiles, or the special order I just placed at Audreys, which is already starting to come in.Nov 17, 2012
The Value Village on Whyte and 89th was out of control today—they even had a paperback copy of Infinite Jest, which I’ve never, ever seen in a secondhand store before.Sep 8, 2012
What I read, bought, and got assigned on my summer vacation (mostly the latter two).
(Thanks to Russell Books in Victoria, Bard on the Beach, my editor at the Georgia Straight, Criterion Books in Vancouver, and the Salvation Army at 3rd and Lonsdale.)Jul 23, 2012
I threw a book swap at my house this afternoon. It was great, I cleared out a few dozen books from my closet, and everyone went home with a stack of new titles. But we still wound up with around 50 leftovers. I promised Kate I’d only keep five, and the rest will get donated to the Strathcona Library.
Above are the ones I was thinking about holding onto. But I dunno. Can anyone out there give me a yay or nay on any of these (keeping in mind that none of them—not even Ms. Fey—are givens)?Jun 24, 2012
